Shield Darter

Shield darters are small, bottom-dwelling fish that live in fast, rocky riffles throughout the northeast. They’re known for their striking bars along their side, and can be found darting along the streambed as they hunt tiny invertebrates.

Hiwassee Dace

Native to the Hiwassee basin, the Hiwassee dace thrives in clear, cool creeks with gentle flow. It’s recognized for its strikingly unique spawning coloration.

Pygmy Madtom

The endangered pygmy madtom is the smallest native catfish species in North America, often growing no longer than 2 inches. Like other madtom species, it is incredibly shy, spending most of its time hiding in cavities and under rocks.

Amber Darter

Found only in a very limited stretch of river in Georgia and Tennessee, the amber darter is considered highly localized and federally endangered. It has beautiful warm golden tones and a distinct bar below the eye.
